Luknja offers a beautiful view of the Triglav North Face and the surrounding peaks, especially on the Trenta side. You can also continue your hiking tour via Plemenice (a very difficult secured trail) to Triglav.
From the car park continue along the macadam road past the Aljažev dom lodge in Vrata, then straight on in the direction of Triglav, Sovatna, Luknja (the right goes to Škrlatica, the bivouac at Rušje). Continue along the macadam road, which leads past the winter room to a marked crossroads by the famous wedge (a memorial to the fallen partisan mountaineers). Continue straight ahead (to the left is the Tominšek Route) and enjoy beautiful views of Mount Triglav and its North Face. A short climb on a dirt track follows, and then signs will direct you to the left, to a path leading closer to the Triglavska Bistrica riverbed. Here it leads past a memorial to the victims of the mountains, and a little further on you will arrive at the next marked crossroads. The path towards Luknja climbs moderately for a while, but becomes steeper and increasingly more scenic higher up, until you reach the scree below Luknja. The path over the scree is quite slippery, but when you get to the foot of the cliffs, there are steel ropes to help (not difficult once the snow has melted, but they will be useful for the descent). For a short time, climb steeply up along the wall, then the path turns slightly right and leads you a little higher to the Luknja saddle.
