The house stands by the road leading through Dovje, from the centre of the village in the direction of Jesenice. Ivan Brence - Pehtut was a determined and steadfast farmer. During World War I, when farmers were forced to surrender their oxen to the Austro-Hungarian army, Pehtut disobeyed the order. He was concerned about his farm and his family’s wellbeing. He rebelled, and no amount of persuasion helped. He was taken from the farm by soldiers and imprisoned. After showing up in court, and responding by saying, “I said what I said”, he was shot.
