The Pocar Homestead

The homestead, which has been declared a cultural monument of national importance, has been restored and equipped as a museum.

It is one of the oldest and rarely preserved old farmsteads in the Triglav National Park. Its appearance, the rich collection of exhibited artifacts and the curator’s story about the Pocar family conjures up a picture of life in the region beneath Mount Triglav from centuries past to the present day.

The front façade features frescoes of the Mother of God of Mount Lussari and of the Crucified with Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. The interior furnishings are fully authentic. The residential building comprises a vestibule, the family room with a tiled stove, a household chamber, a black kitchen, a chamber, a cellar and an attic. The out- buildings consist of stables, a hayloft with farm tools and a display with a presentation of the Triglav National Park. At the property there is also a preserved pigsty, a woodshed and a well, which, together with the house and outbuildings, form a complete unit. The homestead shows the life, work and building heritage of the past centuries and is not only a museum but also an information point for the Triglav National Park.

In the summer months, the barn of the homestead is an event space to showcase the cultural creativity of the people in the park and their friends.

The homestead is managed by the Triglav National Park. Information about guided tours and opening hours is available in the information office in Mojstrana during the summer.
