Kepa (2.134 m), starting point at Tromostovje, across Brvog

Kepa, also known as Jepa or Mittagskogel in German, is a scenic mountain in the western Karavanke mountains. Located on the border ridge between Slovenia and Austria. From the top, there is a beautiful view that stretches from the nearby Julian Alps through the Carnic Alps to the High and Low Tauern in Austria.

Follow the road in the direction of Kranjska Gora. You will soon notice the signs for Dovje, which will direct you to the right onto the ascending road, which will soon bring you up to the upper part of the village. Follow the road through the village in the direction of Kepa and Dovška Baba, then you will reach a somewhat larger crossroads, where you will take a sharp left in the direction of Kepa. Park in a suitable spot at the road juncution, or even find a spot a little earlier among those along the road.

From the junction, head towards the left-hand stream (Žakelj) and cross it right there. The wide path continues along the right side of the stream, but follow it for only a few metres, and then look for the sign “Kepa” on the grazing fence, which directs you to the right onto the ascending footpath, which will take you above Erjavčev rovt in a few minutes. Continue along the marked path, which transitions into a forest and begins to climb steeply. The path will then soon lead you to a water trough, followed by the Brvog pasture, over which you will ascend to the nearby hunting lodge. The lovely path flattens a little higher up, and then continues to the Koritec well, where there is a marked crossroads. As you continue, the climb steepens a few times and the views of the Julian Alps start to get more and more beautiful. The path then becomes more challenging and you cross an exposed ravine, where you are aided by guardrails. Following the ridge, you will reach the foot of the Dovška Mala Kepa slopes. You can reach the top in 10 minutes on an easy trackless trail. The path then climbs steeply and continues along the ridge. Finally, there is an easy climb up the grassy slopes to the top of Kepa.
