From the large parking lot in the Vrata valley, we continue along the macadam road, along which we reach Aljažev dom in Vrata in three minutes' walk. From the house, we continue straight in the direction of Triglav, Stenar and Kriški podi (Škrlatica on the right) and continue along the wide tourist trail.

The path ahead barely climbs significantly through the belt of forest, where we pass the winter bivouac on the right, then the forest thins out and after a few minutes of further walking we reach a large wedge (monument dedicated to fallen Partisan mountaineers). From the monument, we continue straight (Tominškova pot on the left) along the path, which gradually returns to the forest and brings us a little higher up to a marked crossroads, where we continue right towards Pogačnik's dom (straight to Triglav and Luknja). From the crossroads onwards, the path begins to climb steeper through the beech forest (the area is called Bukovlje), but this one is a little above 1300 m/s.l.m. leads to a pleasant spring, which dries up in dry periods. A few minutes of walking through the forest follows. higher bushes and the path leads us out of the forest at the foot of Sovatna, where a rather overgrown path from the bivouac under Luknja joins us. From here on, the path becomes steeper and more scenic. The path, from which we have beautiful views of the Triglav north wall, leads us higher up to a short, slightly exposed passage, where greater caution is required, especially in the wet. The path ahead flattens out a little, but continues to climb relatively steeply. This is followed by a climb through gravel, and then the valley narrows and the path leads us to a short rocky jump over which we climb with the help of reliable belays. Above the jump, the slope flattens out, and the path ahead leads us across a series of valleys, where we often see a herd of ibex. Higher up, the path goes to the left side of the valley, where it then climbs across a wide and slightly exposed ledge in a short part. From here, there is another 10 steps of walking and the path takes us to the marked crossroads at Dovška vrata. From here we continue to the right towards Stenar and Križ (Bovški Gamsovec and Pogačnikov dom on the left) and continue the ascent along the initially steep and then increasingly steep path, which quickly reaches the crossroads under Stenarska vratca. We continue to the right again (Križ on the left) along an increasingly scenic path, which is joined just a few steps higher by an unmarked path via Stenarska vratca.

We continue to the right again (Križ on the left) along an increasingly scenic path, which is joined just a few steps higher by an unmarked path via Stenarska vratca. In the continuation, we cross the scree and, with beautiful views of Triglav, Bovški Gamsovec, Pihavec and the Trenta valley, we walk to the steep slopes of Stenar. From here on, the path begins to climb steeply along a nicely dissected rock formation, then turns sharply to the left, where it suddenly drops off after a few 10 m. Here or just over 10 m earlier, the pathless approach to Spodnji Stenar branches off to the right, and we continue along the marked path, which begins to climb steeper again. After about 15 minutes of walking along the top slope of the mountain, the more and more scenic route leads us to the 2501 m high peak.
