Kepa (2.134 m), starting point in Belca

Kepa, also known as Jepa or Mittagskogel in German, is a scenic mountain in the western Karavanke Mountains, located on the border ridge between Slovenia and Austria. From the top, there is a beautiful view that stretches from the nearby Julian Alps through the Carnic Alps to the High and Low Tauern in Austria.

Start by following the road from Mojstrana in the direction of Kranjska Gora. When you arrive in the village of Belca, park in the new marked parking lot by the sawmill. The path leads into a gravel bed amidst fallen rocks left by a rockfall, there, you will see a marking on a large rock. The path then rises steeply in the forest and reaches a road. After about an hour and 15 minutes, you will reach the former starting point at the road gate. Follow the sign for Kepa, the path descends into a stream bed, crosses it and turns left uphill, where you will see a large marking and a sign- post. The marked mountain trail then crosses the forest road twice. When you reach it a third time, follow it to the right to a slightly larger parking area by the border ridge.

The increasingly scenic trail then crosses a few slightly exposed gorges and then turns right (entirely on the Slovenian side of the border). Continue left (Dovje to the right) along the path, which after a few further steps leads to the top of Kepa.
