On the summit stands the Aljaž Tower, which was built in 1895 by Jakob Aljaž, the then parish priest of Dovje. Today, the Aljaž Tower is a protected cultural monument and, as such, very important for the preservation of cultural heritage. The first visit to Triglav occurred on August 26, 1778, when four brave men climbed to the summit. They are honored by a monument which stands in Bohinj. These men of heart were Luka Korošec, Matevž Kos, Štefan Rožič and Lovrenc Willomitzer.

From the top of Triglav, you can enjoy a beautiful view that stretches to the Adriatic Sea, the Dolomites and the High Tauern, to the Karavanke Mountains, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the Pohorje Mountains, across almost the whole of Slovenia, and to the highest peaks of the Julian Alps. The most important starting points for hiking tours in the Triglav Mountains are from the Vrata, Kot and Krma valleys.

From Mojstrana, follow the signs for Radovna and on towards Krma. The macadam road will lead you to the Kovinarska koča lodge, but follow it further. From the car park, continue past the road gate across a large gravel area, where the path turns into a forest and then onto a stone track. At a height of about 1,400 m, it leads to a beautiful grassy plain called Vrtača. Continue straight ahead along the marked trail, which leads across the initially grassy and then slightly overgrown slopes to the shepherd’s hut on the Zgornja Krma mountain pasture. From the shepherd’s hut, continue slightly right along the marked mountain path, which leads to a marked crossroads within a few minutes of a slight ascent. A little further on, you will reach a cross- roads of several paths, carefully follow the signs for Kredarica (Vodnikov dom to the left, Staničev dom to the right). From here, the trail starts to climb steeply under the slopes of Vrh Snežne konte (in the area called Kalvarija). The trail turns slightly to the left here and starts climbing steeply towards the Triglavski dom lodge at Kredarica. After about 15 minutes of steep climbing, the path flattens out and we see the highest mountain outpost in Slovenia.

From the Triglavski dom lodge, continue in the direction of Triglav along a path that begins to descend gently towards the pass between Kredarica and Mali Triglav. After a few minutes of steep ascent along Zeleni sneg, you will reach the point where the climbing part begins. A large marking can be seen from a distance, next to which you will see a warning sign that the ascent will continue along a very difficult secured mountain trail. The path climbs even more steeply over the rugged rocks, where you then cross to the left with the help of a steel rope to get to a technically very difficult area. From here, a very steep and well secured trail leads you to the crest of Mali Triglav, where a slightly easier trail from Planika joins from the left. Continue straight along the ridge path. From Mali Triglav, where there is a beautiful view of the peak and most of the route ahead, the path descends slightly and then leads to an indistinct saddle between the two peaks. Follow this very scenic and, in some parts, very steep trail all the way to the top of Triglav.
