Prag route
From the parking lot along the macadam road past Aljažev dom in Vrata. We continue straight in the direction of Triglav along the gravel road, which takes us past the winter room to the marked crossroads next to the famous wedge (monument to the fallen Partisan mountaineers). We continue straight (Tominškova pot on the left) with beautiful views of the Triglav north wall. The path climbs along the torrent to the crossroads, where we turn left onto the path over Prag (straight to Luknja and Plemenice) and cross the torrent. We continue to climb with more and more beautiful views along the path, which is occasionally surrounded by rubble. Higher up, we are helped by steel cables, which offer us safer walking. Next comes the most difficult part of the journey across Prag. With the help of staples and a steel cable, we climb the 15 m high, almost vertical fireplace. The problems then slowly disappear and the Tominšek path joins us from the left. Just a few steps further along the path, we see a pleasant well where we can rest. We come to the next crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of Kredarica (Staničev dom on the left).
The path continues along the Triglav foothills, where we may have some problems with orientation (especially in the fog). The path leads to Triglavski dom on Kredarica, to which we have to climb slightly.
The description of the route to the top of Triglav is the same as the description of the route from Krma.
Tominšek Route
Tominškek route is named after the former president of the SPD, Fran Tominšek, and before World War I, during the Slovene-German competition for dominance in the Julian Alps, it was considered a competitive Slovenian path in contrast to Prag route, which was considered a German path. We leave the bottom of the Vrata valley five minutes above Aljažev dom, at the monument - the wedge, where it goes left across the (dry) bed of the Bistrica. Then it winds along the Erjavčev graben and along the steep beech base of the Cmir wall. In the upper half, where it runs along the western edge of Cmirovo ostje, it turns into a real protected and in many places precipitous climbing path crossed by snow gullies. As a counterweight, excellent views of Škrlatica and the Triglav Wall are offered. In just over three hours, it takes us to the spring under the western red overhangs of Begunjski vrh at an altitude of around 2,000 m. Before the well, the path over Prag joins us, and our path can continue across the karst footpaths to Kredarica (2,515 m).
We recommend hiring a mountain guide for both routes.
