Mountain tours in this area are relatively long, with steep sections. In the beginning, they mainly move in the forest world, especially in Karavanke mountains, which then move to ridge crossings to the top. The mountains north of the Vrata valley and east of Škrlatica are a nature reserve. It is characterized by broken ridges, precipitous walls, ravines, spurs, prongs, crumbling red towers, in short "a world for the gods", as too many poetic recluse romantics believe. There are no crowds on these peaks. Solitude reigns in these cliffs. There are also pastures in the Karavanke mountains area where cattle graze in the summer months, so visitors must be careful when crossing.
Several connecting mountain routes lead through the area: Slovenian Mountain Trail, Via Alpina, Julius Kugy Alpine Trail, Juliana Trail, Jakob trail.
