Shortly after the start of the trail, the wider valley narrows to become a narrow rocky gorge, where the stream is more audible than visible as it flows deep beneath the rocky overhangs. Following the road, you even get to step into the Belca stream once the water and the road meet on the same level. The road then continues through forest clearings where farmers used to drive their cattle to summer pastures. We are continually dazzled by the beautiful view of Kepa, whilst across the valley, we can admire the Julian Alps behind us.
Belca Gorge
The Belca stream runs along this long valley, on the hillside you can fallow a deserted forest road for 2–3 hours to the Jepca sadde (1,610 m), the starting point for the peak of Kepa (2,143 m) in the Karavanke Mountains.
