They are one of the longest ridges in Europe. The Karavanke Mountains are home to steep slopes, panoramic peaks, mountain pastures, valleys, gorges, waterfalls, diverse flora and fauna, rich nature and preserved cultural heritage. The diverse and unspoilt nature, several plant and some animal species are a special feature within Europe and therefore form part of the Natura 2000 area.
The mountains and hills, with their well-maintained hiking and mountaineering trails, suitable for easier hikes or more demanding climbs, offer a wide range of options for active leisure activities for different target groups. The Karavanke Mountains are the ideal choice for a short escape into nature as well as for a few days’ hike and rest.
The highest peak in the Karavanke Mountains is Stol (2,236 m), followed by several other two-thousand-metre peaks: Vrtača (2,180 m), Kepa (2,143 m), Obir (2,139 m), Košuta (2,133 m), Peca (2,126 m), Veliki vrh (2,088 m), and Begunjščica (2,063 m). Kepa can be climbed from several directions, starting right from our places.
