With its altitude of more than a kilometre and numerous climbing and mountaineering access points to the highest peak in Slovenia, it overshadows the other surrounding peaks, although the Vrata Valley is the starting point for many of them: Begunjski vrh, Bovški Gamsovec, Cmir, Dolkova špica, Kanjavec, Kriški rob, Križ, Pihavec, Planja, Rjavina, Škrlatica, Stenar ... The Triglavska Bistrica runs through the valley and a park trail runs along it, which is 11 km long in total and starts at the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana. From there, it continues to the roaring Peričnik waterfall and under the Galerije all the way to the Aljažev dom lodge. It ends in the valley gable, below the Face.
The landmark along the way, the Peričnik waterfall, was formed when a glacier cut into the conglomerate during the last ice age, deepening the valley and creating a picturesque conglomerate sill, almost 100 metres high, over which the waterfall falls today in two stages.
